Get IN Chicago welcomed three new interns to the team this fall: Grace Koch, Alexandria Santistevan, and Michelle Sharpe.  Their projects range from assisting with grant compliance and budgets to communications and events.  Thank you to the Baum Family Fund for providing generous funding to support this group of interns!

Hometown: Denver, CO
Current: Avondale, Chicago
School: The John Marshall Law School
Major: Law School- Juris Doctor (JD)
Most interesting thing you’ve learned on the job so far at GIC: The most interesting thing I’ve learned is how Get IN Chicago’s research supported a five point plan to reduce youth violence.  Specifically I’ve enjoyed learning how Get IN Chicago has redeveloped its efforts overtime to get to a more sustainable and effective outcome.
Best way to spend a Saturday in Chicago: The best way to spend a Saturday in Chicago is probably exploring and enjoying the city. First, brunch at one of Chicago’s many great breakfast locations. Then, hanging out at one of Chicago’s beaches until dinner time!
Favorite Chicago food: Deep Dish, Lou Malnati’s to be specific!
Post-School Goals + Plans: My interests are in labor/employment and civil rights law. Ideally, I would like to do non-profit or government legal work in those areas of law for a while, and then transition into politics.

Most interesting thing you’ve learned so far about Get IN Chicago: The most interesting thing I’ve learned about Get IN Chicago is that it works differently than other non-profits.  It is research-based with the intent to identify effective programs and build a framework that alleviates youth violence.
Best way to spend a Saturday in Chicago:  My favorite way to spend a Saturday in Chicago is going downtown to Millennium Park where there’s always something going on!
Favorite Chicago food: Busy Burger & Mario’s Italian Lemonade (both found down Taylor Street)
Post-School Goals + Plans: After graduation I hope to continue my education by pursing a Master’s degree in Education Policy Studies.
