Get IN Chicago has invested millions of dollars into local efforts for safer communities and brighter futures.  By the end of 2017, our support had helped caring mentors, compassionate therapists, and community leaders connect with more than 14,000 individuals on the south and west sides of Chicago.  See how these investments are making a difference for a few of those youth and parents in Get IN Chicago programs.

Anthony’s Story, shared by SYNC partner Westside Health Authority

Marcus Warren and D’elegance Lane, mentors with the SYNC program at Westside Health Authority.

Mandated by his Probation officer to participate in Strengthening Youth through a Network of Care (SYNC), Anthony* started coming to Westside Health Authority reluctantly.  He showed little interest in school, attending less than half of the time, and approached sessions with his mentor like a chore.

Over the past year however, his mentors say that Anthony has made amazing progress – he now willingly comes to Westside’s office when he has free time and actively participates in community events, tutoring sessions, and field trips.  His SYNC mentor also helped him enroll in a GED program, and now, Anthony is on track to graduate.  Get IN Chicago is pleased to support local organizations, service providers, and mentors as they make a difference with young people like Anthony across the city!
