As part of our commitment to evaluation, we are excited about our partnership with NORC at the University of Chicago!  In the coming year, we will work with Carrie Markovitz, PhD and Bruce Taylor, PhD on an intensive evaluation of mentoring programs.  On Friday, June 26th, representatives from our current mentoring grant recipient organizations joined us at the GIC office for the project kick-off.

Two questions will guide the evaluation research:

1) Do high school students participating in a Get IN Chicago mentoring program demonstrate better outcomes on key measures of school engagement and violence reduction than a similar group of high school students at similar schools not participating in the program?
2) Among the Get IN Chicago mentoring grantees, which program models, strategies, and/or features appear to be most effective in increasing school engagement and reducing youth violence among at-risk students?

The evaluation is being done in partnership with Chicago Public Schools, and NORC will work with agencies one-on-one over the next year.  We look forward to learning more about the impact of our mentoring programs. Findings will be available in early 2017.
